Summer Sun Safety Tips

With these tips from PulseAir, you can protect yourself and have fun in the sun all summer long.

Sunscreen

As we approach the summer months and can finally start spending more time outdoors, there are several important things to remember. While sunny days may bring a lot of fun possibilities, they can also lead to problems if you don’t properly prepare for being out in the sun. Without proper protection, you put yourself at risk for sunburn and skin cancer. With these tips from PulseAir, you can protect yourself and have fun in the sun all summer long.

Sunscreen Is Your Best Bet

Sunscreen is the most effective way to protect your skin in the summer. But it’s important to use the right type of sunscreen. We recommend using sunscreen with at least 30 SPF strength that is meant to protect against broad-spectrum UVA rays. Apply your sunscreen to all areas that are exposed to the sun, including your face, neck, ears and legs. Be sure to apply your sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside, and re-apply your sunscreen every two hours.

Don’t Forget Your Eyes

Sunglasses are meant for more than fashion. Wearing the sunglasses is critical to protect your eyes from potentially harmful UV rays. While any sunglasses will help reduce glare outside, some sunglasses are better equipped to stop UV rays. Make sure you’re purchasing sunglasses that fit closely to your eyes and have a high Eye Protection Factor (EPF). EPF is rated on a scale of 1-10. The higher the number, the more protection you’ll have.

Choose Your Clothing Carefully

Clothing and headwear provide an extra layer of protection from the sun. But some clothing is better than others. For example, many shirts are made with Ultraviolet Protection (UPF) fabric. This type of clothing is designed to reduce your exposure and protect your skin. Many people also choose to wear hats in the summer, which can help protect your head and neck. But be sure to choose the right hat. Baseball caps don’t protect your neck and ears as much as hats that have wider brims.

We’re all looking forward to the warmer weather and getting outside. And when you use these tips, you can enjoy the nice weather safely!
