Early Signs of Heart Disease to Be Aware Of

Recognizing the early signs of a heart attack is critical in safeguarding your own and your loved ones' cardiac well-being.

Cardiac Health

Recognizing the early signs of a heart attack is critical in safeguarding your own and your loved ones' cardiac well-being. Being able to identify the initial symptoms of heart disease can prevent stroke, heart failure, and heart attacks, and enable you to seek medical attention promptly. To understand the early warning signs of heart disease that you should be aware of, read on!

1. Chest pain
  • This is pain that you feel across the front of your body and is the most common symptom of poor blood flow to the heart. Chest pain usually occurs when your heart is not receiving enough blood or oxygen.
2. Unusual or extreme fatigue
  • If you are feeling unusually tired or weak and it is affecting your everyday life, this may be a sign of a heart problem.
3. Shortness of breath
  • When your heart isn’t functioning correctly, fluid can leak into the lungs and cause shortness of breath.
4. Edema in the legs
  • Swollen legs are another sign of heart disease. When your blood flow slows down, fluid can build up, causing edema in the legs, ankles, feet, and sometimes the stomach.
5. Fast heartbeat
  • Because your heart isn’t functioning properly, it may start beating faster to try to keep up. You might feel like your heart is racing and it can be a sign of heart problems, including arrhythmia.
6. Other signs of early heart disease
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting or near fainting
  • Pale or blue skin

When to Call 911 or Seek Emergency Medical Attention:

  • If you are experiencing chest pain
  • If you think you are having a heart attack
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fainting

When heart disease is found early, it is easier to treat, which is why knowing the early signs is so important!
